Is Laser Hair Removal Right For Everyone?

Laser hair removal is a fast and effective method of permanent hair reduction. You can expect that it will permanently remove 80 to 90 percent of hair, but you may need touch-ups over time. Every client is different.

It is not, however, right for everyone. Certain medical conditions or even personal activities could make laser hair removal not the right fit for you.

Here’s what you need to know:

While you’re going through laser treatment for hair removal, you can’t pluck or wax or bleach at the same time. You can shave, but otherwise you need to leave the hair alone that’s being treated.

Laser hair removal can cause some scarring, especially in individuals who
are prone to keloids, which are like overgrown scars. Discuss this with your
laser specialist if you have a history of keloids.

You can’t go to the gym right after a laser treatment. You want to keep the
laser-treated skin cool for the first couple of days. Your laser treatment
specialist will talk to you about this. So, if you work-out seven days a week,
then laser is not for you.

Laser hair removal can cause skin pigmentation changes. However, this really depends on the type of skin you have, your skin colour, and the type of laser used.

We always discuss risks during the first consultation.

Any kind of open skin lesions or skin trauma or obvious skin disease are
clear contraindications for laser hair removal. If have some kind of skin disease that is not obvious, you should discuss laser hair removal with your doctor. Laser hair removal specialists rely on the honesty and information offered by the client.

You also can’t undergo treatment if you have a sunburn on the area in
question or if you have recently plucked or waxed that area.

If you have seizure disorder, discuss it with your doctor. For some people, the pulsed and flashing lights can bring on a seizure.

Aside from what we’ve listed here, laser hair removal is considered pretty non-invasive and safe and has been practiced for over 50 years. We also prefer the Light Sheer Duet diode laser which is currently the state-of-the-art laser for hair removal with a light wavelength of 800nm.
